In 2014, I did an exercise called, “Design your best year ever.” Within that exercise, you put down goals for many different areas of your life including: business, financial, physical, mental, family, spiritual, lifestyle, and relationship. During that time of what I would call reflection and preparation, I really began to think about my best self and what would that look like in all those areas. There is no doubt that this is a hard exercise and one that takes some time but it is also necessary. It is also a lot of fun to look back at the goals I set and see what I have achieved, what I still need to work on, and what are some new goals that I need to get my mind set on.
Why Set Goals?
The greatest achievers in the world have all succeeded because they mapped out plans for their vision. Take a look at Elon Musk. He puts his goal out to the public (accountability), and then he starts executing the plan to achieve that audacious goal. While you may not develop a electric car, space travel, or hyperloop, you still need to set goals and refer to them daily to ensure you are on the right track. So this should be a simple step, right? Wrong! For some reason, this task proves to be the most difficult for people. Simply writing down your goals will not get them accomplished. You have to be committed and it helps to have an accountability partner. This is where the team at Carson Crossfit comes in. Is It a Waste of Time?
Back in 2014, I put out some audacious goals. A few of them included: buy a beach home, start college funds for the girls, start my own company, (or take one over 😉 ), get 7 hours of sleep a night, sign up for a Mud Run (Spartan will suffice), go to church on a regular basis, have a certain amount of money invested, and some others. Some of these in my mind were unattainable goals, but low and behold, they got accomplished. Now did I reach all of my goals…nope and that is okay. I know for sure though that if I had not written these goals out and really put some focus to them I would not have achieved the ones that I did.
